According to news reports, Pope Leo XIV officially declared a 2007 event in Rhode Island a miracle—a baby near death was healed after prayers to a long-dead 19th-century Spanish priest, Salvador Valera Parra, to advance him for sainthood and boast the Catholic church’s intercessory power.
But is this incident truly a miracle of God—or something more deceptive?
The Bible clearly states:
“For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.” —Ecclesiastes 9:5-6
Praying to the dead is spiritualism, not faith. The dead cannot intercede or perform miracles. Yet the Vatican uses this supposed “miracle” to boast religious authority as a “true church.”
The line of distinction between professing Christians and the ungodly is now hardly distinguishable. Church-members love what the world loves, and are ready to join with them; and Satan determines to unite them in one body and thus strengthen his cause by sweeping all into the ranks of Spiritualism. Papists who boast of miracles as a certain mark of the true church, will be readily deceived by this wonder-working power; and Protestants, having cast away the shield of truth, will also be deluded. Papists, Protestants, and worldlings will alike accept the form of godliness without the power, and they will see in this union a grand movement for the conversion of the world, and the ushering in of the long-expected millennium. — 4SP 406.1
This miracle isn’t divine—it’s deception.
The Vatican’s miracle claims are fulfilling Satan’s last-day strategy—to draw people away from God’s Word and toward false miracles.
Revelation 16:14 says: “For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles…”
A Call to Discernment
True faith rests not on sight but on Scripture. The real miracle is the transformation of the heart by Christ, not the revived life of a child attributed to the intercession of the dead. The living word of God must be our guide—not supernatural signs that contradict it.
Don’t be deceived by emotional signs. Stand on Scripture. Test every spirit. Cling to Christ—not religious systems using miracles to exalt themselves.
Truth is truth!
