False Unity: A Dangerous Path to Destruction

Pope Leo’s recent meeting with Orthodox and Catholic pilgrims, pledging to “pursue the path of unity and fraternal charity,” and claiming that their visit was one of the “abundant fruits of the ecumenical movement,” may seem like a step toward Christian reconciliation—but it’s a deceptive one.

Unity Without Truth

True unity must be based on doctrinal agreement about Bible truth, not emotional gestures and compromise. Unfortunately, the Catholic–Orthodox so-called unity ignores this fact, which makes it spiritually dangerous. True unity must be grounded in obedience to God’s commandments and the faith of Jesus (Revelation 14:12).

Prophecy Warns Us

The Bible warns that in the last days, all the world will “wonder after the beast” (Revelation 13:3). This ecumenical push of uniting churches is part of that movement—uniting under Rome rather than under Christ is NOT a fulfillment of Christ’s prayer for unity in John 17, but a counterfeit designed to lead souls into spiritual bondage.

Prepare for What’s Coming

The ecumenical movement may sound loving and inclusive, but it leads to destruction. It’s preparing the world for the enforcement of false worship—the coming Sunday law, the power of Rome! Don’t be deceived by talks of love and unity that ignore the truth.

As the churches depart more and more widely from the truth, and ally themselves more closely with the world, the time will come when those who fear and honor God can no longer remain in connection with them. Those that “believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness,” will be left to receive “strong delusion,” and to “believe a lie.” [2 Thessalonians 2:11, 12.] Then the spirit of persecution will again be revealed. But the light of truth will shine upon all whose hearts are open to receive it, and all the children of the Lord still in Babylon, will heed the call, “Come out of her, my people. -4SP 239.3

Let us not be swept up in the emotional tide of unity that ignores truth. The remnant must stand apart—not in pride or isolation, but in faithful witness to the everlasting gospel. This is the hour to prepare, proclaim, and stand. The world wonders after the beast—but God’s people must wonder after the Lamb.

Truth is truth!
