On August 28, 2025, a well-known New Jersey mall faced a lawsuit for selling clothes on Sunday. At first glance, this may seem like a local legal battle or a quirky headline, but it has a deeper meaning for Bible prophecy students.
For centuries, Sunday laws—laws that restrict business, labor, and activity on the first day of the week—have surfaced in different places. Now, even in 2025, we see lawsuits over Sunday trading, signaling that the issue of religious observance and civil law is far from over.
Revelation 13 warns of a time when “no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark” (Revelation 13:17). This is not about a simple lawsuit over clothing sales; it is part of a prophetic utterance. The world is gradually being conditioned to accept restrictions on buying and selling based on man-made religious observances, rather than God’s commandments.
Isaiah 58:13–14 reminds us that the true Sabbath—the seventh day—is the Lord’s holy day. But prophecy tells us that in the final crisis, Sunday will be exalted by human law, and those who refuse to honor it will face restrictions, even to the point of not being able to buy or sell.
What we see today in New Jersey is just a small part of what’s coming. The storm is approaching rapidly. The book of Revelation has long foretold a test, and now is the time to put our trust in Christ, obey God’s commands, and get ready to respond to God’s last message of mercy now being offered. This is mercy’s last call. Next will come the vengeance of an offended God.
