Good Intentions, Questionable Methods: A Biblical Caution

Crown of Life is a new video game inspired by Adventism that is getting a lot of attention in Europe. It is an innovative way to connect young people with biblical themes where they already spend a lot of time: on digital platforms.

At first, it can appear like a daring, modern way to deliver God’s Word through technology. And it’s true that people who believe in God have used the medium of their day, like printed, radio, TV, and the internet, to spread the gospel. But Christians should be careful not to do things that are popular, easy, or effective just because they are. Biblical ideas are far different from this destructive way of thinking, which is “the end justifies the means.” While outreach innovation may sound promising, it raises a serious spiritual concern: are we adopting worldly methods to accomplish God’s work?

The Apostle Paul tells Christians not to follow the ways of the world, but to renew their minds (Romans 12:2). When evangelism begins to resemble secular entertainment, especially game culture, we risk accepting the principle that the end justifies the means, which is never supported in the Bible. God has never used worldly entertainment or strategies that go against the truth to reach people.

Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world” (John 18:36). This shows the power of the gospel does not lie in entertainment or amusement, but in the convicting work of the Holy Spirit through truth (1 Corinthians 1:18). When we start to depend on pretty formats, showy interfaces, or practices from the world, our reverence diminishes and spiritual discernment weakens. Unfortunately, the SDA church has lost it due to apostasy!

The real question is not whether a method gains attention, but whether it leads to genuine repentance, obedience, and transformation. God has never needed the world’s tools to accomplish His purposes. Popularity should never take precedence over principle.

We should remember that the gospel’s power comes from God, not from the things that entertain us in the world. It is not enough to be entertained or attracted to Christ; true conversion comes from the Spirit, conviction by the Word, and surrender to Christ.

As we consider new ways to reach out, like this video game, let’s ask God for wisdom (James 1:5) and make sure that our means are in line with God’s eternal ends. We should never let “the end justify the means” above what the Bible calls faithful and holy.

Truth is truth!
