Today marks the 182nd anniversary of October 22, 1844, one of the most significant dates in the history of God’s prophetic people.

What happened on this day was not the end of the prophetic movement, but the beginning of a deeper understanding of Christ’s ministry in the heavenly sanctuary.

The prophetic event order is clear:

1. Daniel 8:14 – The 2,300 days. The prophetic time period reached its conclusion in 1844.

2. The Great Disappointment. The time reckoning was correct, but the event was misunderstood. Believers expected the Lord to return to earth, supposing that the sanctuary to be cleansed was the earth itself. However, the sanctuary was in heaven, where Christ would begin the final phase of His ministry as our High Priest. Thus, as the Lord allowed it, the bitter disappointment became the means of leading His people to a deeper understanding of the heavenly sanctuary and the fulfilment of prophecy. God’s prophetic Word had not failed; His people had misunderstood the event that was to take place.

3. Revelation 10:10-11 – The renewed commission. The little book was sweet in the mouth but bitter in the belly. Then came Heaven’s command: “Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.”

4. The sanctuary and the judgment. Daniel 7-8 points to Christ’s final phase of ministry in the heavenly sanctuary and the beginning of the investigative judgment in 1844, but NOT His Second Coming on that date.

5. The final proclamation. Revelation 14:6-12 reveals the three angels’ messages, calling the world to worship the Creator, recognize the hour of God’s judgment, warning against receiving the mark of the beast, and keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

6. The events ahead. Christ’s heavenly ministry will reach its conclusion; probation will close, and Jesus will return in glory. No one knows the day or hour of His coming.

Therefore, October 22, 1844 is not merely a date to remember. It is a commission to fulfill! We must not only understand the prophetic message but we must live it, proclaim it, and allow it to prepare us for the coming of our Lord.

The world still needs to hear the everlasting gospel. The warning must go to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people. The sanctuary truth must be understood, and Christ must be lifted up as our High Priest, Saviour, and coming King.

“But now time is almost finished, and what we have been years learning, they will have to learn in a few months. They will also have much to unlearn and much to learn again. Those who would not receive the mark of the beast and his image when the decree goes forth, must have decision now to say, Nay, we will not regard the institution of the beast.” – ExV 55.1
