“The Days Shall Be Shortened”: A Prophetic Wake-Up Call

Is Time Literally Getting Shorter?

According to a recent report, Earth’s rotation is gradually accelerating. Scientists have recorded Earth’s shortest days in modern history with microsecond changes in rotation. Though hidden from our daily lives, these small changes are significant to geophysicists.

But for the student of prophecy, this should prompt a deeper question: Are we witnessing, in a literal sense, what Jesus foretold would happen for the sake of the elect?

What Did Jesus Mean by “The Days Shall Be Shortened”?

In Matthew 24, Jesus speaks of the time of great tribulation—a period so intense that if it were not shortened, “no flesh would be saved.” But “for the elect’s sake”, God would intervene. This was historically fulfilled during the “Dark Ages,” i.e. 1260 years, and we are now living in the little time of Jacob’s trouble, and then the time of trouble follows when the plagues begin.

“Yet for the elect’s sake, the time of trouble will be shortened. The end will come more quickly than men expect.” 4SP 447.1.

Reading it plainly shows God’s mercy in limiting suffering. Has this prophecy got anything to do with speeding up time? While we shouldn’t speculate, science is observing measurable changes over time. This may indicate that God is moving quickly and the end of all things is at hand.

Why Does This Matter?

The Bible repeatedly warns that the final events will come suddenly and many will not be prepared.

“But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.”
—1 Thessalonians 5:4

If time is indeed shortening, not just figuratively but literally, then it is vital that we do what Scripture commands:

“Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”
—Ephesians 5:16

Time is one of the most precious gifts God has given us. And now, He is giving us a warning through the Bible and nature: We have less time than we think.

Practical Steps to Redeem the Time

Here are seven biblical actions you must take now to be ready for Christ’s soon return:

1.  Return to Daily Prayer

“Pray without ceasing.” —1 Thessalonians 5:17
Don’t just pray in crisis—make prayer your lifestyle. Begin and end every day communing with God. Morning prayer brings strength, noon prayer brings balance, and evening prayer brings peace.

2. Study the Word Diligently

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God…” —2 Timothy 2:15
Set aside time daily for the King James Bible. Avoid shallow devotions—go deep in understanding, especially prophetic books like Daniel and Revelation.

3. Put on the Whole Armour of God

“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” —Ephesians 6:11
Don’t let down your guard. Spiritual warfare is intensifying. Equip yourself with truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, the Word, and prayer.

4. Live a Holy Life

“Be ye holy; for I am holy.” —1 Peter 1:16
Now is not the time to toy with sin. Repent of secret faults. Cut ties with known disobedience. Live in purity, because Christ is returning for a spotless bride (Ephesians 5:27).

5. Warn Others

“Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet…” —Isaiah 58:1
Tell family, friends, neighbors: Jesus is coming soon. Use every opportunity to share the gospel. Time is short.

6. Keep Your Lamp Trimmed and Burning

“Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.” —Matthew 25:13
Like the wise virgins, you must stay filled with the Holy Spirit and alert. Many will sleep spiritually. Don’t be among them.

7. Live as Pilgrims Looking for a Kingdom

“For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.” —Hebrews 13:14
Don’t get too comfortable in this world. Be ready to let go. We are sojourners here. Long for the heavenly country.

Final Thought: Be Ready

The world is changing at an accelerating pace—morally, politically, economically, and now, even planetary time itself. These are not coincidences; they are wake-up calls.

Jesus is not delaying. He is shortening the time.

“He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”
—Revelation 22:20

If you’ve been waiting to surrender fully to Christ—now is the time.
The clock is ticking.
