Adventist Wake-up Call: Diwali Dangers and Apostasy

The Adventist Health Ukiah Valley (a Seventh-day Adventist nonprofit organization) is endorsing the Hindu festival of Diwali on it’s recent Facebook post. This is not merely a cultural observation; it is a clear example of the SDA’s slide toward apostasy.

The Problem with Diwali Endorsement

Divali is, at its core, a pagan Hindu festival. While it’s widely celebrated for themes like the “triumph of light over darkness” and “good over evil,” these are inseparable from the Hindu religious context, which involves the worship of multiple deities such as Lakshmi (goodess of wealth) and Rama.

The Bible is very clear on the matter of worship:

  • Exodus 20:3-5 states, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God…”
  • The call to the Christian church is to be separate from the worship practices of the world. 2 Corinthians 6:14 asks, “For what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?”

Any form of endorsement, celebration, or official encouragement of Diwali by an Adventist entity violates these fundamental biblical commands. It is an unholy agreement that brings pagan ideas and practices into the spiritual lives of Christians.

The SDA church continue to bear bad fruits by compromising its stand against idolatry and the worship of false gods. Initially, the SDA church was called to proclaim the Three Angels’ Messages, but they failed due to rebellion and apostasy, just like ancient Israel. Now is the time for its honest members to leave this fallen church and be separate, to stand with the remnant.

God’s command is clear: To be separate, to be distinct, and to stand as a light on a hill, not to dim that light by mixing it with the religious celebrations of the world. We must return to the “old paths” of faithfulness and uncompromising truth before the Lord returns.

Truth is truth!
