WORCESTER, Mass. – A retired Roman Catholic priest has pleaded guilty to his role in an international online dating scam.
The Telegram & Gazette reports that Father Thomas Fleming reached a deal with federal authorities in which he agreed to plead guilty to one count of money laundering.
Prosecutors say the 67-year-old Fleming helped orchestrate the scheme for a person who identified himself as a serviceman overseas. Investigators say that person was using a false identity.
Women who responded to the online ads were asked to send money, which prosecutors say moved through two bank accounts belonging to Fleming. Continue reading

In an apparent attempt to assuage the fears of LGBT Americans, President-elect Donald Trump told Lesley Stahl of 60 Minutes that he has no plans to roll back same-sex marriage rights. Asked by Stahl if he personally supports marriage equality, Trump replied, “It’s irrelevant because it was already settled. It’s law. It was settled in the Supreme Court. I mean it’s done.” He went to clarify that even if he were to appoint a judge who opposes marriage equality, the issue has been “settled” and he’s “fine with that.”

The remarks, made on the station Radio Maria, were “offensive and scandalous”, the Vatican said. A Dominican friar said the quakes, including one in August that killed nearly 300, were caused by sins of man. He said these included the approval of same-sex civil unions last May.
